GRANT APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

To maintain an efficient and equitable review process, please submit full application (6 sections listed below) by 5pm on the due date preceding the quarter for which funding is requested. Electronic copy must be submitted as one document to coastalfund@gmail.com (do not send multiple attachments). Number pages if feasible. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  2. Timeline: Provide a general timeline that illustrates the project's stages (if applicable) leading up to anticipated date of completion. The Coastal Fund Grant Manger may review, suspend, and/or terminate funding for projects that fail to progress in a timely manner. Please be aware of required final project report and internship evaluation form (if applicable) that is required to be submitted within 60 days of the end of the project timeline, outlined in Guidelines for approved projects).
  3. Project Proposal: The proposal should explain the purpose and nature of the project, address its importance in regards to the Coastal Fund Mission, and illustrate its relevance to the UCSB shoreline. This also includes clearly stated section on project objectives including specifically what will be accomplished for your project to be considered successful.

    The information below is meant to be used as a guide to insure proposal thoroughness. There is no page limit. Please see FUNDING ELIGIBILITY
    1. Research Projects: State research objectives, background information, hypothesis, experimental design and methods, and anticipated significance of results. Include citations to relevant literature. A support letter by an advising professor must accompany research project proposals submitted by undergraduate or graduate students. CF prioritizes projects that have a significant applied research component for preservation and conservation of the shoreline environment. In a separate paragraph, state how your project achieves this objective. Refer to the section above on what CF will consider for research project to make sure your project meets the criteria. Please address how it meets each one of these.
    2. Preservation or Restoration Projects: State the goal of the project and discuss its ecological importance. State its relationship to the CF's mission and its feasibility within the given timeline. Include how you will evaluate effectiveness at obtaining the desired results. Project proposals submitted by undergraduate and graduate students must be accompanied by a brief letter of support by an advising professor, if applicable. Address how the progress of restoration will be evaluated in a separate paragraph.
    3. Educational Projects: Include a description of the project and an explanation of the project's educational merits and goals. Include a review and approval by a sponsoring teacher, professor, or professional when applicable. Educational outreach projects that produce materials for distribution must include a marketing strategy in their proposal. In a separate paragraph, address how the success of this project will be evaluated.
    4. Access-Oriented Projects: Include a description of what the resource is that is being proposed to develop or improve access, how is it currently reachable, how would the improved access help, what potential negative impacts are there from providing this new access. Include a detailed description of how the access is to be achieved or improved and a list of permits authorizations that will need to be obtained. There will be additional requirements if the CF decides such a project is warranted that will be imposed on a case-by-case basis.
  4. Resume or Curriculum Vitae: A current resume or Curriculum Vitae is required of the applicant and all persons specifically identified in the proposed project.
  5. Press Release: Please write a simple press release as if your application was funded in full. Also include one digital photo that is relevant to your application project or program. Coastal Fund staff may submit this press release to local newspapers as a way of outreaching to the local community if funded.   6. FINAL REPORT: If you've received funding from Coastal Fund in a previous grant relative to this current proposal (continuation of project or program) please provide your final report.
